Quilting Love Affair

My love affair with quilts began
forty-eight years ago today
when my grandmother gave me
my very first quilt.

I love that her hands embroidered each stitch.
I love that she quilted this by hand.
I love that she didn't finish it because I came early
and she wanted me wrapped in something warm.

My next quilt was given to me when I was a teenager.
It also was from my grandmother.
She took old material from things that she had worn
or that my aunts and uncles wore as children.

I LOVE THAT

When my girls were young my sweet MIL
gave me the next quilt.
She knew my love for all things old
and blessed me with this lovely quilt.
I can not for the life of me remember who made it.

(Denise do you remember?)

I love that these women took the time to make such works of art!

Last year about this time
I received this Christmas quilt.

My BFF Julie sent it to me.

Julie and I have done life together since
Nike tennis shoes
(with the red swoop)
were
THE END ALL TO BE ALL
coveted teen age shoe to have!

To me, a quilt is a warm hug
from someone
SPECIAL!

  2. Nancy, your quilts are amazing. I wish I could see them closer up, but they are so interesting and unique. Quilts are such wonderful pieces of history. I cherish mine, as I'm sure you do yours.

Thanks for linking up, although I didn't see your link. I will check out Mr. Linky and see what I can do to add yours there for you. I'd hate for people to miss seeing your beautiful quilts.

  3. You have a similar love for quilts like me! The giver of a quilt can make the quilt Oh sew special. The love put into each stitch is priceless. Thank you for sharing your quilts with us.

  7. I cannot quilt myself but am a devoted collector. I love the thought of all the work and care that goes into a quilt. I also love the colors and design. Yours are beautiful and all special. Blessings

  8. Nancy, I feel so guilty for not sending you a birthday card. I started packing boxes in September and have been in a time warp ever since. Happy birthday!
I'm not sure about the maker of the pink quilt. If I give you Jeannette's e-mail, perhaps Aunt Pinky can look at a photo of the quilt and identify the maker.
Did you do anything special for your birthday?

  9. Quilts are storytellers and I love all of mine too. I especially love your birth quilt from your grandmother. Maybe it's because I've made 15 and know the love that goes into each! Thanks for your visit and sweet comment too.

  10. I agree, a quilt is a hug :) You have really taken off in making quilts. I am currently making my second and third quilts...one for each of our children. They are also Christmas quilts and they are both different patterns. Nancy, your quilting is beautiful! Love your BFF
